I build my own instant cameras, formats are both 4x5 and 3x4. I use traditional pack films made by Fuji, sometimes polaroid, and sometimes by the new "Impossible Project", films that are readily available. My lenses are cleaned and adjusted by my neighbor, a camera technician for the last 50 years. The bodies of the cameras I use are all aluminum cores from vintage fold out polaroid cameras of the 1950's, I chop them, weld them, and shape them. The polaroid instant film backs are cleaned, dyed, and permanently integrated into the body of the camera, to provide as slim and bulletproof action. Brass plates are cut and shaped, then drilled to shave weight and added to the base of the camera with a tripod socket.The rangefinders are adjusted for the new film format, cleaned and set, the trim is dyed and the aluminum body is covered with a high quality cowhide. Cosmetically this provides what I believe is an elegant yet subtle solution to owning a hand holdable dedicated large format instant camera.
